SKINTOP® SOLAR with cold shock guarantee

Thursday, Jan 19, 2012

The requirements for the use of photovoltaic junction boxes are becoming increasingly strict. Accordingly, test criteria for compliance with the new DIN EN 50548 standard were recently made much more stringent. The Lapp Group's new SKINTOP® SOLAR cable gland for photovoltaic junction boxes meets all the conditions of the new standard.

The most important test criterion is the increased cold shock resistance in line with UL 1703/UL746C. On the new SKINTOP® SOLAR cable gland, this shock resistance is achieved by using a polycarbonate compound specially developed to meet these requirements. Polycarbonates like this are also used in the production of bulletproof glass, for example. Another feature is the high UV and weather resistance complying with UL F1 outdoor use. This guarantees an exceptionally long service life.

These outstanding properties mean that the new SKINTOP® SOLAR also meets all  requirements for the sale of photovoltaic products on the US market.

The new SKINTOP® SOLAR also meets many other requirements for use under the harshest conditions. It is extremely flame retardant and self-extinguishing in case of fire. The temperature range is between -40 and +125°C, guaranteeing excellent weather resistance in hot conditions, ice, snow or rain. This is supplemented by outstanding strain relief. The cable can easily withstand even the strains caused by wind and ice. With its IP68 - 5 bar protection rating, the cable gland offers optimum protection against water and dust.

With the new SKINTOP® SOLAR the Lapp Group is extending its wide range of products for the photovoltaic industry. This range includes innovative ÖLFLEX® SOLAR cables, EPIC® SOLAR junction boxes and low-resistance EPIC® SOLAR 4 Thin connectors.

The new  SKINTOP® SOLAR satisfies all of the requirements for global use in photovoltaic systems
